Apr, 20- May, 30/07 Pablo Picassso Works at the MAM From 20 April to 30 May visitors at the Museum of Modern Art will be able to enjoy works by famous Spanish painter Pablo Picasso. The exhibit is entitled "Box of Remorse", a 45-piece collection which Picasso developed from 1919-1954. The exhibit is open from 10am-6pm Tuesday-Thursday. Admission is free. Apr, 20/07- May, 27/05 Europe on Display at the Parque Independencia Onlookers at the Parque Independencia will be able to enjoy an exhibition entitled "27 Capitals of the European Union" until 27 May. The exposition showcases photographs and information of each of the 27 countries that comprise the European Nation. The exhibition is being sponsored by the French Embassy along with the Secretary of Cultural. Apr, 23- May, 6/07 International Book Fair 2007 The "Santo Domingo International Book Fair 2007" will take place 23 April to 6 May at the Plaza de la Cultura. Now in its 10th year, the fair has invited Columbia as the country of honor for the nation's continued literary contributions. http://www.ferilibro.com Apr, 28/07 8pm Female Rock One of the few female voices in the local Dominican rock scene, Paola Moreno will perform at the auditorium of the Dominico-Americano 28 April at 8pm. Moreno will be performing songs from her debut album entitled "Nuevo Plan". http://www.paolamoreno.com Apr, 29/07 8pm Gustavo Cerati Concert Argetinean Rock artist Gustavo Cerati is on his way to the DR. Apr, 30/07 8:30pm Dominican Documentary A powerful documentary entitled "Immigrants heading to the Mother Land" will be shown 30 April at 8:30pm at the Videoteca Jean Luis Jorge as part of the International Book Fair. The documentary, by Dominican Miguel Angel Bonifacio, deals with the cruel reality Dominicans face when emigrating to Spain. Apr, 30/07 8:30pm Silvio Rodriguez to sing for free Renowned Cuban singer/song writer Silvio Rodriguez will offer a free concert for all Dominicans to enjoy. On 30 April at 8:30pm at the Estadio Olimpico, the Cuban guitarist will perform some of his greatest hits over the years like: "Ojala", "Te doy una cancion", "Causas y Azares", "Unicornio" and more. This will be Rodriguez's first free concert on Dominican soil. May, 1/07 7 pm Platero and I at the National Theater The classic tale "Platero and I" will be performed at the National Theater 1 May at 7pm. The play is part of the festivities of the National Book Fair. Admission is free. May, 3/07 8:30pm New twist to Romeo and Juliet An interesting version of William Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" will be performed at the Teatro Guloya 3 May at 8:30pm. The version is entitled "Juliet, Juliet", which portrays Romeo as an unromantic character with sex instead of love on his mind. Admission is RD$300 per person. Teatro Guloya is located on Félix María del Monte #5 in Gazcue. May, 5/07 8:30pm Spanish Pop at the Jaragua Spanish pop rock band La Quinta Estacion will make their first appearance in the Dominican Republic. The concert is set for 5 May at 8:30pm at the Hotel Jaragua. The concert will take place at Santo Domingo’s Hotel Jaragua 17 May. Jun, 2/07 Night of Tropical Etiquette On 2 June Dominican musicians Francis Cruz, Frank Cruz, el Grupo Manuel and Vinicio Franco will present their concert "Night of Tropical Etiquette" at the Jaragua Hotel. The performers promise a night filled with Latin sounds. Ticket prices are RD$850 per person. For more information call 809-221-1414. Jun, 2-3/07 Dominican Song Festival The Secretary of Culture has announced the first annual "Dominican Song Festival Eduardo Brito", to be celebrated 2-3 June 2007. The festival encourages Dominicans to write original songs and submit them for various prizes that include cash and a chance to have the song released on CD with the other finalists. Chosen songs will be performed during the festival's celebration in June and cash prizes will be handed out ranging from RD$300,000 to RD$1,000,000. Jun, 14/07 Christopher Cross at the Jaragua Grammy Award winning American singer Christopher Cross will offer his first performance in the DR. The concert is 14 June at the Hotel Jaragua. Tickets will be on sale shortly through ticketexpress.com. Cross is best known for his hit single "Sailing". Jun, 26-27/07 Cabarete Classic Windsurfing Regatta The "Cabarete Classic Windsurfing Regatta" will be held 26-29 June in Cabarete. Categories are Slalom and Freestyle and are open for windsurfers of all levels. Jun, 30/07 Calle 13 to Santo Domingo Chart-topping Puerto Rican reggaeton/hip-hop group Calle 13 will make their way to Santo Domingo 30 June for their first concert in the DR. Calle 13 is best known for their Grammy award winning single "Atrevete,te,te". http://www.ticketexpress.com.do Aug, 1/07 Winnie the Poo Bear Winnie the Poo and the gang will be visiting the Dominican Republic for the first time this upcoming summer. "Disney Live Winnie the Poo" is the name of the performance that will take place in August 2007 at the Palacio de los Deportes. The interactive show will recreate the popular cartoon of Disney's famous bear. Dates, times and ticket information have yet to be confirmed. Nov, 30- Dec, 3/07 DANR National Conference The Dominican American National Roundable (DANR) will hold their 10th annual National Conference from 30 November-3 December. The conference will be held at the Radisson Miami Downtown Hotel in Miami, Florida. This is the only National Conference in the U.S. that brings together Dominicans from around the country for the purpose of community empowerment. http://www.danr.org Jul, 1/08 VII World Confepaso Cup The Dominican Republic will host the 2008 Youth World Confepaso Cup bringing together the best in paso horses riders. The event is scheduled for July 2008. A specific date was not given and will be reported when available.
